bathtubgirl's journalSaturday, August 18, 2001All day Snow and I got ready for the Zone 9 art event. The day was terribly hot, and the streets of downtown LA seemed to be filled with crabby people, the homeless and the non-homeless alike. Throughout the day, we moved our whole Church of Love set to the rooftop of a 4 story loft building a few blocks away on Wall St. Deep in the heart of the ghetto. I will post images in the next few days. What follows is my commentary on the event, the good and the bad. Let's just say the good was really good and the bad was really bad.

Most of the people were really nice and took quite well to our exhibit. It was very simple. I asked the person to get baptised by holding out their hands. Then, I asked them to pick from one of the challices. "Do you want to be blessed with love, strength, or fantasy?" Then I slowly poured the liquid out of the designated challice and unto the hands of the participant, from there the action was to set his or her intention and rub the hands together to make friction aka energy. All three essential oil/water combinations were popular. In the midst of these rituals, two conservative looking men sauntered up to the Church of Love. They stared at me and asked, when the performance was going to start. I explained to them what I was doing and they looked at me quizically. I also explained I didn't want to disrupt the musicians performing next to me so I was facilitating simple self baptisms and dancing to the music. Then one of the men said do you know that people are smoking marijuana on the rooftop. "If I would have known there was bubbles smoking, I wouldn't have come to the event," the Schtevish guys voiced. Then there was one other really awful comment made by DJ Dafydd. Basically, he was pissed because he didn't get to spin until 12:30 a.m. I didn't really understand his immature emotions, but I learned later that in past Zone 9 events he had the floor to himself for the entire night. The last words he spoke to me were, "Your little art party is officially over. I live here (in the loft building) and this is now a private party." His music was adequate House with a British undertone. There was a lot of good vibes there too. A real mix of people. I met the infamous Bob Moss (I've been hearing about him since I moved to LA) of The LA Cacophony Society.
![]() He has a website called Wednesday Barbecues that he invited our group to attend. Even, Uncle Milton the Psychedelic Professor visited us following his Eric Clapton concert. Then there was the groovy editor of The Shire Post sixty eight year old, Bernie Zuber. He kept coming up to our set like a captivated elf. I enjoyed my conversations with him. Ok let's talk about the art, Basque Eva had her own display of photographs as did Snow. Atomiko (aka Atom) showed a few of his acryllic assemblage pieces. Kimmy McCann had at least ten new paintings on display in the main part of the loft, oil paintings with mirror collage abstractions. There were several other amazing pieces of art as well as projection work, like that of Michael Allen. (Images of musicians will be here soon, many of them are in the process of making websites.)
A special thank you to Grinda and Voidsong of Porno 4 Potheads as well as Atomiko and his lovely girlfriend, Dawn the sexy Gothic powerhouse from Hollywood. Not to mention Courtney's help for driving the truck as well as Eva who helped hang pictures. We couldn't have done it without you. Now the set is dispersed throughout my house and I will be putting it back together and soon getting my bathtub studio ready for the live internet broadcasts.
